Jack K-Snacks!... Sunkist Cherryade

Alright, it's by Sunkist so it's not thaaat exotic but it has Korean writing on it and you won't see it here at coles or woolies so it qualifies for a K-Snack!

I picked this up from Conveni-8 for $1.20. It's....ok. The cherry flavour is not bad - a tad medicinal, which seems to be a real love-hate sort of thing when it comes to these kinds of drinks (think sarsaparilla, cherry cola etc). It's a little too sweet for me and a little on the artificial-tasting side. But that's cause I prefer my cherry juice straight up!

Not exactly a winner, not exactly a loser. Oh, and for the curious, what's the Korean name on the can? It literally spells out the sound of the word "Cherryade", go figure!

Hmm, maybe it needed more kiss from the sun to taste better...
What: Sunkist Cherryade
Where: At selected Korean and other asian shops. I got this one from Conveni-8 (303 Pitt St, Sydney)
How much: $1.20 is what I paid

Jack Snacks!... Azuma Cafe - Iced Matcha and Green Tea Chiffon Cake

I've been a regular visitor to the Regent Place shopping complex ever since it opened. And that most definitely includes Azuma Cafe. It has two things that I love - one is green tea and the other is cakes. Yes, I'm afraid I'm talking about green tea goods foods again - I just adore green tea everything.

The Iced Matchas and Iced Matcha Lattes usually have a really good matcha flavour, nice and strong. But for some reason, on the one day that I am taking photos for the blog, the Iced Matcha ($4.50) is substandard. It's usually really good with a strong matcha taste and if you ask nicely they give you some sugar syrup so you can add as much or little as you like. But today it tastes a little bland and watered down. And I asked for the sugar syrup but instead of serving it on the side they added it in, barely enough as I couldn't taste much sweetness. But I'll go back sometime and order it again to make sure everything is back to normal. There's also green tea lattes and cappuccinos, a selection of hot and iced teas too.

Was the regular drinks maker on holidays? No star from me today, no siree.

Cake on the other hand hasn't let me down so far. Especially the chiffon cake - it's super light and airy with really good flavour. Green tea tastes like green tea, earl grey tea tastes like earl grey tea, chocolate tastes like chocolate - it's awesomely lovely. It's simple, fluffy, homely goodness. You can get one piece for $4.90 takeaway or you can call up and request a whole cake too (around $32 or so from memory). I've also seen a mini-chiffon cake which looks oh-so-cute. Other goodies available at Azuma Cafe are tarts (the chocolate tart is rich and dark, I haven't tried the green tea yet but I'm very curious), macarons, panna cotta, other cakes and green tea frozen yoghurt (I am not a yoghurt lover so I can't comment). My only complaint about the cake offerings? In the beginning they used to make Soy Milk Pudding and it was sooooo fantastic - milky-silky with a brown sugar jelly on top. So Azuma-san, if by some miracle you are reading this - please, please, please bring back soy milk pudding cause I do love it so. Pretty please!

Light and airy, this cake is fit for a green tea loving fairy.

What: Azuma Cafe
Where: Ground Floor, Regent Place, 501 Greorge Street, Sydney (from memory they close at 10pm Mon-Sat, 8pm on Sundays)
How much: Iced Matcha is $4.50 and Green Tea Chiffon cake is $4.90 takeaway

Jack Snacks!... Teamo Teapresso Iced Matcha Latte

Another Teamo - thought I'd try another flavour. This time it's the Iced Matcha Latte. I like that they give it to you with the matcha layer and milk layer still separated - it's visually appealing and fun to mix it up yourself. It's got good strong matcha flavour, I like it. And because it's not too sweet I can drink the whole thing without feeling sickly by the end. The guy who served me recommended that I try adding red beans next time, saying that it goes well - I've marked it down on my list!

Matcha! Latte! Mix it up! Yeah!

What: Iced Matcha Latte
Where: Teamo Teapresso Shop LG 08, 580 George St, Sydney (Adjoining Citisuper asian supermarket)
How much: $4.30 for regular size

Jack Snacks!... Tangy Orange Slurpee

Another post jumping the chronological queue! Don't get too excited though, it's not a half-priced slurpee - sorry!

There are 7-Eleven posters saying that the Lemon Lime Bitters Slurpee is back! But I found myself at 7-Eleven staring at a "sold out" sticker. Drats! So instead I decided to try the other limited-time-flavour of Tangy Orange. It's really just a slurpee version of Sunkist or Fanta and it's definitely sweet. I am not sure what happened to the 'tangy' component, maybe it got drowned out by the sugar? But I must admit, I happen to like Sunkist (cause it's kissed by the sun) so I dig this new flavour! I'm definitely going to check out some more of the other flavours!

Ummm someone forgot to invite Tangy?!?

What: Tangy Orange Slurpee
Where: At 7-Eleven stores
How much: I got medium for $2.50

Jack Snacks!... Jack's Juice

I'm pretty much recovered from being sick but still barking like a dog coughing a lot. One thing that always makes me feel healthy though is a nice fresh juice, and my favourite is my very own combination that I always ask for and I call it "Jack's Juice". It's nothing fancy really, just a combination of watermelon, carrot and mint. When the proportions are right, it's a really nice balance of fruit and vegie tastes. The mint gives it a little kick too. Next time you're ordering a juice, give "Jack's Juice" a try and tell me if you like it!

Jack's Juice, yum! It's even got some nutritional value.

What: Jack's Juice - watermelon, carrot and mint
Where: Wherever you can order fresh juice

Jack Snacks!... TeAmo Teapresso

Another tea place to love! Even though EasyWay tea is everywhere, it's at the bottom of the list when it comes to preference. It's too sweet and the tea taste is lacking. Chatime and BoBiBon are better offerings with their stronger tea taste and, in the case of Chatime, a wide variety of interesting flavours. There's another really good option now, and that's TeAmo Teapresso. According to the little pamphlet/menu booklet, they use a teapresso machine. And that's what's so good, the strong emphasis on the tea component. There's hot teas (tea lattes and cappuccinos and brewed tea), iced tea lattes, iced milk teas and iced traditional teas. You can add pearls or various jellys but no fruit flavourings for the drink itself. It's good as it is, cause you can really taste the tea! They also sell crepes and a few flavours of ice-cream which I am yet to try. But if you are a tea lover like me, try this place out!

Iced Classic Green Tea ($4.50 XL) with mixed jelly ($0.40) and Iced Roasted Tea ($4.50 XL), the TeAmo shop, the iced green tea before all the jelly disappeared.

Yep, check it out, that's real tea they use and that's tea in my drink!

What: TeAmo Teapresso
Where: Shop LG 08, 580 George St, Sydney (Adjoining Citisuper asian supermarket)
How much: Priced from $2.80

Jack Snacks!... In love with Soft Brew Apple

Yes that's right, I am in love with a drink! It's not your average soft drink nor is it a regular apple juice. It's "Soft Brew Apple" made by WP Hopper. It's a soft drink that's brewed like a beer with barley, hops and fruit juice (apple and pear in this case) but because there's no fermentation it's completely alcohol free. When I saw it at the local fruit shop I bought one straight away and couldn't wait to try it. Would it taste like beer? Would it taste like apple juice? It tasted like apple beer!! Now I don't mind the way regular beer tastes, but when I drink it I make a little "alcohol wince". Soft brew apple is smooth and doesn't give you any sort of wince. I would choose this over a regular beer any day of the week! In fact, if they stocked this at pubs and bars, I could see myself drinking all night...

Soft brew apple. Hello my love!
Oh, I should mention. There are actually 3 flavours. Apple, Blackcurrant and Citrus. I have since tried the Blackcurrant which is also nice, but I think the fruity-beer aspect isn't as noticable. I'll have to try the citrus as well. At this point, apple is definitely the winner and the one you should try first.

Soft brew blackcurrant - nice, but my heart stays true to apple.

What: WP Hopper Soft Brew drinks
Where: I found it at Royal Randwick Fruit Market, I'll be checking out other stores to see who else stocks it.
How much: I could have sworn it was $3.99 the first time I bought it. But the second time round it was only $1.99. $1.99!!!! Love only costs $1.99! UK readers can buy this at Waitrose according to the WP Hopper website too!

Jack Snacks!... Lemon Lime Bitters Slurpee

Recently I saw some 7-Eleven ads on the side of buses advertising limited edition slurpee flavours. The one flavour that really caught my eye was Lemon Lime Bitters. I like the regular slurpees, but sometimes they can be a bit too sweet. This looked like something I might like. And I did, it wasn't too sweet, it's kinda like ordering the drink at a bar and letting the ice melt a teeny bit before freezing it all. I'm going to try and get it again before they stop selling it!

On the cup it says "slurp so much your tongue freezes to the straw" hee hee
What: Lemon Lime Bitters Slurpee
Where: At 7 Eleven stores
How much: I got a medium size for $2.50
